This is an oil painting that was started on location and finished in the studio, showing a group of trees on a Lake Erie beach in summertime. It was a warm day with a bit of a breeze, and the beach had a few visitors, some of whom stopped by my easel to offer encouragement on my painting. An enjoyable day spent "near the water".

His art draws inspiration from the masters of the field, such as Monet, Degas, and Renoir, who sought to express emotion and the effects of light and atmosphere in their art. Michael has studied painting with noted artist Andrew Sanders, and also studied art at the college level. Most of his paintings depict the varied landscape near his home in northwestern Pennsylvania, although they have a universal appeal to lovers of impressionist art.
