Artist's Description
This pastel painting depicts a serene landscape in the midst of autumn. The trees on the left are the centerpiece of the painting. Their leaves have have begun to change color signaling the change of seasons. The birch trees are arranged in a group closer to the foreground, with others farther back rendered in cooler blues and greens giving the painting depth and perspective.
A slash of sunlight illuminates the middle ground, where grasses are touched by the sun's ray. The foreground is mostly in shadow, with warm and cool colors alternating.
In the background, the colors of the sky give the painting a sense of calmness and tranquility.
The overall effect of the painting is one of peacefulness and quiet contemplation. It captures the essence of autumn, a time of change and transition, while also conveying the beauty and majesty of nature.

E. Michael Camp is an artist who works in the general field of "impressionism." His art draws inspiration from the masters of the field, such as Monet, Degas, and Renoir, who sought to express emotion and the effects of light and atmosphere in their art. Michael has studied painting with noted artist Andrew Sanders, and also studied art at the college level. Most of his paintings depict the varied landscape near his home in northwestern Pennsylvania, although they have a universal appeal to lovers of impressionist art.
