This is an image of an oil painting that I did as a commission for a cousin. Our parents grew up on the west coast of Ireland in an area called Connemara. It's a region that's known for its wild, untamed beauty and rich Irish heritage. This painting depicts the vista that greets adventurous climbers of a mountain called Errisbeg that looks down on a peninsula that juts out into the sea near Roundstone. This unique landmass contains two sheltered white-sand beaches, Gurteen Beach and Dog's Bay Beach. Scattered on the hillside above the peninsula are camping facilities, B&B cottages, and Gurteen Cemetary, where our grandparents and other relatives are buried.
E. Michael Camp is an artist who works in the general field of "impressionism." His art draws inspiration from the masters of the field, such as Monet, Degas, and Renoir, who sought to express emotion and the effects of light and atmosphere in their art. Michael has studied painting with noted artist Andrew Sanders, and also studied art at the college level. Most of his paintings depict the varied landscape near his home in northwestern Pennsylvania, although they have a universal appeal to lovers of impressionist art. Michael is a member of the Northwest Pennsylvania Artists Association and the Presque Isle Artists Association.
